The thesis relies on social anthropological theories of the sacred that were formed during the 20th century, mainly in France. Of central importance are in this context the issues of materiality and media-bound specifity (also as carrier of image and text) of perception, performativity, topology and iconology of red flag textiles as well as the search for the phenomenon’s conscious and unconscious genealogies together with its reflexion in the post soviet art.
