Professor Dr. Hans B. Thomsen (2007-2022)

Prof. Dr. Hans B. Thomsen led the chair for fifteen years from 2007–2022. Together with his resourceful team of assistants and students, he organized an impressive number of symposia and conferences that helped place East Asian Art History prominently in the Swiss public. He regularly invited students to join his search for hidden gems in Swiss collections in the much-acclaimed museum survey courses–introducing a tradition of hands-on teaching. Today, Hans B. Thomsen remains involved in the community as a researcher, curator and generous adviser.
