Study Programmes & Courses

What We Study

At the Chair of East Asian Art History at the University of Zurich, we offer diverse programmes, which explore the rich visual cultures of China, Korea, and Japan—across periods and media. From ancient calligraphy and Buddhist sculpture to modern architecture, contemporary art and design, students engage directly with objects, images, and built environments in their historical, regional, and global contexts.

Our programmes combine rigorous art historical training with critical theory and transferable skills including digital methods, preparing students to work independently with visual and material culture.

Uniquely within the Humanities at UZH, East Asian Art History can be studied entirely in English, offering an accessible and internationally oriented learning environment.
