Auditório da Estação Pinacoteca, São Paulo
The workshop aims at discussing the theoretical and methodological challenges posed by the notion of a global baroque as a transcultural and transhistorical phenomenon. The workshop will be devoted to a debate on the methodology for an incipient global art history, especially the contribution of a transcultural and transhistorical baroque and neo-baroque. The meeting wants to discuss the sometimes quite different methodological parameters used today in art history, from medieval to contemporary studies. It also interrogates the different notions of what a global art history is or shall be, which differs according to the academic and cultural backgrounds of the scholars. Taking advantage of the previous events and debates, it is our goal in this Workshop to offer a summary of the main theoretical questions connected to the problem of the reception of European artistic heritage in Latin America and vice-versa. A deeper analysis of the Latin American historiography can be revisited and receive a new evaluation in the face of the presented hypothesis and conclusions. Case studies give way here to a broader theoretical perception of the globalization process and the role of art production and circulation in tandem with it.
