Martina Deuchler

Martina Deuchler, Prof. Dr.

Martina Deuchler, Professor emerita of the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London) where she was professor of Korean Studies from 1988 to 2000, has won numerous prestigious awards for her contribution to the field of Korean Studies, notably delivered the Reischauer Memorial Lectures in 1995. 

Her seminal monographs, Confucian Gentlemen and Barbarian Envoys (1977), The Confucian Transformation of Korea (1992) and Unter the Ancestors' Eyes (2015) have helped in shaping western scholarship and understanding of Korean social structures.
